Under 12’s Avon League
Clevedon 0-2 Yate
Yate were going into this tournament filled with confidence on the back of a successful tournament two weeks previous. Their first opponents Clevedon were no match for the in-form Yate who took an early lead when Harriet intercepted a loose ball, playing a strong pass up the line to Francesca who found Isobel unmarked passing the ball around the goal keeper for Will to slap the ball into the open net.
Soon after Yate doubled the lead when a goal mouth scramble left Alex in space at the top of the D, she danced through the defence to put the ball past the keeper’s left foot!
Clevedon battled back, but a solid performance from the defence kept their first clean sheet of the day.
Firebrands C 0-2 Yate
Filled with high spirits Yate began to build up some early pressure on the Firebrands goal with a couple of shots narrowly missing the target, before finally a long corner routine found its way into the D with Harriet finding her sister who slotted the ball past a helpless keeper to open the score sheet.
Firebrands came back strongly and a breakaway attack almost equalled the scores but for a brilliant left footed save by Dylan and combined clearance by Praneet and Holly. Firebrands maintained the pressure but another save diving save by Dylan deflected the ball onto the post to maintain Yate’s lead.
Yate’s defence remained solid with Holly and Praneet getting to grips with the opposition’s forwards, before a breakaway attack which saw Harriet win the ball in her own D and run the whole length of the pitch before firing the ball into the far post! Yate began to dominate and were unlucky not to increase their lead but a brilliant save prevented Issy getting on the score sheet.
Firebrands A 1-0 Yate
Yate faced their toughest opposition without a break but did really well to prevent a skilled Firebrands team for the majority of the game. Yate gave a disciplined defensive performance with Lucie and Will battling well in midfield preventing Firebrands any clear shot on goal.
As tiredness began to set in Dylan was repeatedly called into action and made countless saves trying to keep his undefeated status intact, but in the final minute a well worked moved and clever finish left Yate 1-0 down.
Bristol & West 1- 3 Yate
Yate got off to a quick start in their final game earning two early short corners, but their efforts were both smothered by the opposition keeper. The pressure began to build and a strong tackle by Lucie started the move, playing the ball to an unmarked Issy in the D who calmly slotted the ball between the keeper’s legs. Will, who was having a busy day battling hard in midfield won the ball out wide and started a mazy run down the left wing before crossing the ball into the middle for a Harriett to beat the advancing keeper with a diving shot!
Dylan and the defence were kept busy with a string of shots well saved and a goal line clearance from Praneet preventing an improving B&W side, but after a double save B&W finally broke down Yate’s defence and scored at the far post.
B&W won a short corner in the dying minutes, but their shot was well stopped by Holly who started the counter attack which saw the ball move quickly into the opposition’s D and after a goal mouth scramble Lucie popped up to score a well deserved goal.
